An Objective to Scale and Sustainability in Rural Area

Individual health and hygiene have always been a topic of more significant concern in a country like India. There is a direct link that connects sanitation, water, and health. And India is a country where all of these factors are neglected on a more significant base. Especially in rural areas, people have been ignoring hygiene, sanitation, and food development for an extended period now. This has ultimately led to a depletion of sanitation over time. Prevailing unhygienic conditions have also led to people depleting the quality of their lives. Let’s take a brief look at the state of Rural Sanitation in India.

Impacting Community Hygiene in improved ways.

The concept of sanitation in India has always been very limited to disposing of human excrement. With time, the connotation got widely expanded and included topics like proper food disposal, along with domestic and public hygiene. Not only from a general point of view, but sanitation plays an essential role in social lives too. Good sanitary practices encourage a clean and healthy community that's free of diseases.

The Total Sanitation Campaign, or TSC, launched under the Central Rural Sanitation Program, was promoted as a people-led campaign. This program came up with a demand-driven approach to help create awareness. This also helps to meet community meets. There were several objectives that the campaign targeted to achieve for the sake of Rural Sanitation. Let’s have a look at a few of them:

  • People in rural areas are known to neglect their living qualities more than the ones in urban areas. It is aimed at generally improving the quality of life.

  • The program also targeted accelerating sanitation coverage so as to give access to a proper sanitation system to their residents. It was targeted to cover all the homes with a proper toilet system by 2012.

  • All the panchayats and communities were greatly encouraged and motivated to promote and work forward for sustainable sanitation setups in remote areas. This also included a proper inculcation of health and hygiene education.

  • The program eventually went on to provide all the schools and anganwadis with proper toilets and toiletries such that no student would ever have to face any unhygienic conditions.

  • Proper, usable, and cost-effective technologies were developed to ensure the safe disposal of sanitary waste. This also made sure that the environment was not exploited in any manner.

  • Solid and Liquid waste was also given a significant focus.

Sanitation development of a place generally depends upon the water supply and other related capacity and institutional resources of the site. Water supply is often seen as a constrained resource when it comes down to supply in rural places. This is why a proper water supply is seen for businesses that need a potential toilet set up for cleaning and flushing purpose. The amount of water available can potentially affect the fecal sludge produced and thereby enhancing the filtering rate and emptying rates. The entire program designing for Rural Sanitation depends upon the water supply and set up of the place.

Community hygiene and its effect on the rural population

With a cooperative effort towards preventing diseases caused due to lack of sanitation, community hygiene can be promoted on a higher level. Children get to learn a valuable lesson related to sanitation at a comparatively lower age, and this further helps them to prevent illness and other diseases.

Core Concepts of Hygiene!

  • We are regularly washing hands with water and soap.

  • It is keeping the washed utensils at a safe distance from the ground such that it is not contaminated.

  • Sweeping your residential places cleans off all and any dust and dirty materials to prevent any environmental contamination.

  • Also, by keeping any livestock away from home, you can ensure that a sense of physical cleanliness is maintained.

Benefits of Community Hygiene

Considering the rural sanitation of a place, there are several benefits that come along with maintaining proper community hygiene. Let’s have a look at some of them:

  • Community hygiene majorly helps to prevent infectious diseases not only in your home but also helps to spread in the neighborhood.

  • There are other public places like schools, parks, compounds, and office spaces that can be given an increased amount of Rural Sanitation just by following a bit of community hygiene. It creates a healthier and disease-free community.

  • We are considering that on a global scale, it helps to prevent damaging the lives of the youngest community of our globe.

If there is any way to promote hygiene education and land on a proper base for Rural Sanitation in India, it is via teaching the communities. This helps to promote a positive attitude and practice excellent and healthy hygienic activities irrespective of age and gender. There is a sense of concern and responsibility towards middle-income countries that comes due to health and hygiene. By beginning a new program, you shall be easily able to avail the advantages of environment cleanliness, and thus all of these factors together lead to a clean environment.
